Certainties in Uncertainty

How y’all doing out there?!

Whew! This COVID stuff is getting crazier and crazier. That on top of just regular life is VERY “interesting” right now. Everything is just in a weird crux of uncertainty.

I was walking around earlier after getting off of 3 back to back phone meetings and I had a thought....

At one point in my life, my ultimate prayer was just for some stability. I thought I needed some certainty in my life because it felt like as soon as one thing started falling into place, it would start to crack, showing me that underneath what I thought was “for sure” was just more uncertainty.

At this point in my life, at the age of 25, I’ve lived through enough uncertainty that I think I’ve, in a way, become calloused to it (if anything for my own mental stability). I thought maybe that was just my life, my portion, how God wrote my life...then I thought maybe it’s the “Christian” life. Now, I’m convinced that it’s just “life” in general.

Life is a journey of uncertainties, but the Christian life provides us at least 2 certainties: 1) God’s help and 2) a dope destination.

Hear me out.

Regardless of who we pray to, worship, or call our “god,” we’re all capable of experiencing heart ache, illnesses, death, job loss, fear, anxiety, and many other types of instability and uncertainty. We’re all gonna be affected by a storm, but the damage will be significantly less for those who build their house on a rock.

Consider the parable about the storm and the two houses. One person built their house on a rock. The other person built their house on sand. The storm came, the winds blew, and the rain fell on BOTH houses, but in the end the only house that was still standing was the house built on a rock. The other house had NO fighting chance! (Matthew 7:24-27)

For us, that rock is Jesus. When we build our lives centered around Him...when the very structure of our homes (lives) is faith in Jesus, our houses won’t fall. When we keep Jesus as our focus, He’ll help us out by giving us peace while all the craziness of the storm is raging around us. (Isaiah 26:3) When the storm passes, (because it will!), we can believe wholeheartedly that we will still be standing...just like the house built on the rock.

Life is a trail of uncertainties, but a life with Christ assures us that whatever is on the other side of this moment of uncertainty will be good. I’ve said It before. It might not feel good right now, but it’s always going to be good. That we know for certain!

So, if you’re feeling like you’re in the eye of a storm, if you’re feeling like what you’re standing on is cracking, trust that if you focus on Jesus, He won’t let you fall. We can be troubled on every side, but with Jesus we don’t have to be distressed. We might be in perplexing situations, but with Jesus we are NEVER in despair. We’re persecuted, but we’re not forsaken. We could be cast down, but we will NEVER BE DESTROYED! (2 Corinthians 4:8-9) If you focus on Him during this time, you might mess around and start walking on water (ASK PETER!). (Matthew 14:22-33)

Be encouraged! Everything will be alright! Hold on to your certainties during this time of uncertainty. Hold on to Jesus. Hold on to His word. The waves are crashing right now...but we have Jesus on the boat. (Mark 4:35-41) We’re good!!!
