Precious, But Not Fragile: The Endurance of God’s Word

A few weeks ago I got stuck in my head about something…and because I’m often in my head about some thing…I genuinely can’t remember what it was about, but the Holy Spirit got me together in 4 simple words.

In the midst of a would be mental spiral, he told me…”God's word isn’t fragile.”

I’ve been holding on to that statement since I heard it and whenever crippling thoughts of doubt would come up, I would just think about the strength and the surety of God’s words.

Now, any time I think I’m hearing God say something, I always try to cross-reference it with the Bible. How can I know for sure that God’s word isn’t fragile? How can I know for sure that nothing can stop God, but God?

….and sure enough, there’s a scripture for that. In fact, it’s the scripture made flesh.

Jesus.

Jesus’ existence was prophesied all throughout the Old Testament. Generations before Mary found out she was expecting, God’s word had already been put out that a Messiah was coming. Everybody knew it….including Satan and old boy tried his best to stop God’s plan. He attacked so many people in Jesus' lineage. He caused chaos between Sarah and Abraham. He tried to displace Ruth. He tried to kill David. He tried to kill Jehosephat…and once Jesus was born he even used Herod to try to kill baby Jesus. I mean….he put an all out attack on the very word of God made flesh.…he knew the end goal beforehand and STILL couldn’t stop God’s plans.

Think about it. Very valid…tactical…strategic assassination attempts were made but….God’s word, his plans, his purpose withstood EVERY attempt! The bible mentions that when God speaks a word, it won’t return void and it has to accomplish the very thing it was sent to accomplish. No halfsys…no this part but not that part…nooooo…His word accomplishes EVERYTHING it’s supposed to! It wouldn’t be able to do that if it was fragile. It wouldn’t be able to accomplish everything if it wasn't strong and backed up by something omnipotent!

God’s word can withstand bruises.

It can withstand hits and bumps.

It can withstand our foolish mistakes.

It can withstand fires.

It withstands. Period.

God’s word is NOT fragile.

A quick Google search of the word "Fragile" brings up words like breakable, brittle, frail, and shaky…

What’s funny about those words…is that while it doesn’t describe God’s word…it definitely describes my faith at times. I’ve heard and read so many of God’s promises that are forever settled and sure…but my faith on the other hand? Mannnn….it’s there…but sometimes I just need help with my unbelief….you know what I mean?

…and yet there’s something so encouraging and exhilarating about KNOWING that God’s words….his plans…his purpose for our lives….they’re not breakable. Our doubts may make us feel a little shaky, but that doesn’t on the flip side make God’s word brittle or frail.

I hope you remember that! I hope we remember that!

No matter what happened, you’re still on track. His promises are strong and they will still be fulfilled. He’ll do what He said He’d do. You can take God at His word…it’s precious, but it’s not fragile!
